TCU Nursing Faculty Present Solution to Vaccine Challenge

Gina Alexander, associate professor; Sharon Canclini, assistant professor of professional
practice; and Pamela Frable, associate professor, all in Harris College of Nursing
& Health Sciences, joined efforts with the Council of Public Health Nursing Organizations
to convey the immediate need for nurses to help vaccinate high-risk populations and
mobilize prevention efforts for COVID-19.

of collaborators have capitalized on the opening to advocate for geothermal energy
resources in Texas, teaming up recently on an op-ed in the Austin American-Statesman.

An article in the new Fort Worth Report focused on the inevitable setbacks for grade school students after they lost a year
of in-class instruction. Estimates from the Texas Education Agency show students have
lost at least five months of learning, but, the article submits, the impact could
be much greater. Faculty also addressed virtual learning.

Mark Bezos '92 Part of Blue Origin Space Flight

Mark Bezos '92, an advertising and public relations TCU graduate, joined his brother
Jeff in his company's first launch into outer space. Blue Origin's first human-crewed
space mission was featured throughout the news, including Fast Company's All about Mark Bezos, who went to space with his brother, Jeff. The event was featured
in the Associated Press and throughout the media.

Institute for Environmental Studies Making Headlines, Saving Rhinos

The TCU Rhino Initiative is far from endangered. Founded in 2014 to provide students
an opportunity to work directly with wildlife via a study abroad program, it is now
at the forefront of rhino conservation in South Africa. A front-page article featured
the program and Mike Slattery, director of TCU’s Institute for Environmental Studies.

Recently, a coalition of TCU researchers, zoo and wildlife scientists released 204
captive-raised hatchlings into the wild – 100 of them hatched at the Fort Worth Zoo.
The event was featured widely across the state. Biology Professor Dean Williams also
spoke on the topic to a California newspaper in May.
