Due to inclement weather conditions, the TCU campus is closed on Thursday, Jan. 9, and Friday, Jan. 10.

The safety of our campus community is our top priority. According to the National Weather Service, our area is under a Winter Storm Warning & Winter Weather Advisory; freezing temperatures and road conditions are expected to become hazardous Thursday morning. TCU Police are available for emergency (817-257-7777) and non-emergency (817-257-7930) support. See below for details regarding services for students and information for faculty and staff.

Be Safe and Use Good Judgment

Above all, the safety of Horned Frogs comes first. Students, faculty and staff should always use their best judgment regarding their ability to travel safely during inclement weather.

Special Hours During Campus Closure

  • Check the TCU Campus Recreation Instagram for hours of operation.
  • Mary Couts Burnett Library is closed and will reopen at 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13.
  • Brown-Lupton Health Center is closed when the campus is closed. For emergencies, call TCU Police (817-257-7777).
  • TCU’s Counseling and Mental Health Center is closed when the campus is closed. Call the 24-hour helpline (817-257-7233) or TCU Police (817-257-7777) for emergencies.

Taking Care of Residential Students

Services for on-campus Horned Frogs continue when the university is closed due to weather, although hours of operation and offerings may be limited.

Dining is currently closed for Winter Break and will open on normal schedule Saturday, Jan. 11.  TCU Dining’s Instagram will be the best source for up-to-date information.

Residence halls and fraternity and sorority houses will remain open; there will always be an RA on duty in residence halls and professional staff on duty to respond to student needs.

Check Residence Hall Instagram accounts for updates regarding programs and activities.

University Operations

When the campus is closed due to inclement weather, most academic instruction and activities will pause until the campus officially reopens. In this unique circumstance, fully remote or online classes, such as the current Winter Session, will continue as scheduled.

Students engaged in clinical rotations, internships or other offsite required activities should communicate directly with their instructors or administrators to work out details when there is a scheduling conflict with TCU’s emergency preparedness plan. In the event of an issue, your safety is our primary concern.

Spring 2025 Orientation, Advising and Registration

Given the unique timing of these events, we will prioritize new student orientation, advising and registration for Spring 2025 to ensure students are able to begin classes on Monday. Students, faculty and staff impacted by these adjustments will receive specific guidance to support their needs.

Faculty and Staff Employees

When the campus is closed, many employees will continue providing essential services to ensure business continuity, the health and safety of our community, to support the presence of residential students and/or to support agreements with the public for the use of university facilities.

Each department is responsible for identifying and communicating to employees who are required to work during a weather event. Employees with questions about work expectations should contact their immediate supervisor. Employees may refer to university policy 6.025 Leaves of Absence Available to Eligible Employees

Athletics or Campus Events

At times, depending on developing weather conditions, sporting or other major events may still take place when the campus is closed; those decisions are handled on a case-by-case basis by the appropriate event-planning parties and communicated to participants accordingly. Check GoFrogs.com and TCU Athletics social media for athletic event updates. For all other campus events, check TCU main channel and TCU Student Affairs social media.

Health & Wellness Reminder

The nation is currently experiencing an increase in cases of flu, flu-like illnesses, COVID and Norovirus in some areas. If you are feeling unwell, please do not return to campus until you have recovered. The Office of the Dean of Students is available to assist you in communicating with your professors if you need to miss classes due to illness. You can reach them at deanofstudents@tcu.edu

Updates

TCU’s Office of Emergency Management will continue to monitor the weather reports throughout the closing. Any updates will be communicated the same way as the closing – through TCU Alert (text, phone and email), TCU’s homepage, TCU News, TCU social media and local media.

More information on emergency preparedness can be found at Horned Frog Hazards on the Public Safety web page.
