About Me

Yohna Chambers-Hastings, Vice Chancellor and Chief Human Resources Officer, joined TCU in July 2016. She was named the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR) 2024 Distinguished Service Award for outstanding leadership of CUPA-HR and higher education HR.

Chambers-Hastings’ higher education human resources career began at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Over the past three decades, she has gained both tactical and strategic knowledge in all areas of human resources while working for Mississippi State University, the Medical University of South Carolina, James Madison University, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). She is recognized among higher education human resources leaders as a thought leader, innovator, and compassionate leader.

Chambers-Hastings is active in CUPA-HR and has held leadership positions at the state, regional, and national board levels. She has served on state-appointed committees, presented at national and regional CUPA-HR conferences, and is frequently called upon to serve as a policy advocate for human resources issues. Currently, she is serving her third year as chair of the TIAA National Advisory Council. Chambers-Hastings was named 2019 Human Resources Professional of the Year by the Fort Worth Business Press and Ogletree Deakins. 

Chambers-Hastings earned an undergraduate degree in home economics from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University and is a doctoral candidate at Baylor University in learning and organizational change.

She and her husband, Wayne, are restoring an historic farmhouse in Southwest Virginia and enjoy attending Scottish Highland Games and events. She has two daughters, Chandler is a junior majoring in education at Austin College, and Cadence is a first-year student at Radford University and plans to major in outdoor recreation, tourism, and leadership.
