Elisa is an assistant professor at the Department of Nutritional Sciences of Texas Christian University (TCU). She did her postdoctoral training in obesity and the gut microbiome at the University of Texas and obtained her Ph.D. and M.S. in Exercise Physiology and Nutrition from Baylor University. Elisa graduated summa cum laude from the Nutrition Department of Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (México), being awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for her graduate studies in the U.S.
Elisa has been an invited speaker for the World Obesity Federation, the National Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the Texas American College of Sports Medicine, the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and the Mexican Society of Obesity, among others. She has received awards and nominations from The Obesity Society (2021) and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (2022).
Elisa has published 38 peer-reviewed scientific articles and two textbook chapters. She has received several internal and external grants to study the gut microbiota.
Dr. Marroquín has nine years of teaching experience and has mentored the research of 19 undergraduate and graduate students from Rice University, University of Texas, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and TCU. At TCU she teaches Nutrigenomics, Research Methods, and Gut Microbiota and Health.
