
Cynthia Shearer

Cynthia Shearer holds an M.A. in English from the University of Mississippi and is the author of two novels. The Wonder Book of the Air (Pantheon /Vintage 1996) won the 1996 Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters fiction prize. The Celestial Jukebox (Shoemaker & Hoard/Avalon, 2005) was cited in the Cambridge Companion to American Literature After 1945 and other reference works as transnational contemporary Southern literature. Her work has appeared in various anthologies. She received an NEA fiction fellowship in 2000 and Pushcart Prize in 2005. She has served as a digital content consultant for Norton Publishing Co. In 2018, she was inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame. Recently retired as Associate Director of the William L. Adams Center for Writing, she now teaches as adjunct faculty for the English Department.
