The 2024 edition of Endeavors, TCU’s research magazine, is live, giving a glimpse into the array of critical research underway on campus.
“The idea list for each year’s Endeavors keeps getting longer, which speaks to the exponential evolution of research culture at TCU,” said editor Caroline Collier. “As always, all of this work has a uniquely TCU feel, no matter the home discipline.”
The cover story is about a research cluster in the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences.
“This cluster was formed to address all manner of health care disparities, from how Somali mothers experience childbirth in the U.S. to the racial inequities in kidney disease,” Collier said. “The cover of the magazine features a beautiful photo of Dr. Angela Njenga, an assistant professor of nursing. If a picture can tell 1,000 words, this shot is all about how real people are suffering from unequal health care, but that together, the scholars of TCU are on the case.”
Also in this issue of Endeavors:
- The true story about how Tricia Jenkins, professor of film, television and digital media, turned her experience of growing up in a cult into a blockbuster podcast.
- The mysterious end pages discovered in a forgotten Jewish text in the special collections of the Mary Couts Burnett Library. Ariel Feldman, the Rosalyn and Manny Rosenthal Professor of Jewish Studies, followed the trail and was able to solve the mystery of the origin of this scribble from the past.
- A feature on geology professor John Holbrook’s student-centered work that helps explain the cause of the Palo Duro Canyon’s unique rock outcroppings — and why the fossil record inside those rocks is one of a kind on earth.
- Mariachi Sangre Royal, TCU’s official mariachi group, and its affiliated music faculty are teaching future educators how to pass the traditional Mexican music on to the next generation.
