The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) has granted TCU a reaffirmation of accreditation until 2033 following a rigorous review process that began in 2020.
“This is a remarkable achievement that reflects our commitment to academic excellence, student success, community and institutional integrity,” Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr. said. “As we celebrate this important milestone, we also renew our commitment to advancing TCU’s mission and vision as a world-class, values-centered university.”
Reaffirmation of accreditation is the culmination of a multi-year process carried
out by a team from Academic Affairs led by Teresa Abi-Nader Dahlberg, provost and
vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, and Susan Mace Weeks, vice provost. Reaffirmation
occurs every 10 years and requires two primary components: a compliance report that
addresses 73 required standards and the development of a five-year Quality Enhancement
Plan (QEP).
“The SACSCOC on-site team expressed that they were impressed with the commitment of our students, faculty, staff and Trustees,” Dahlberg said. “They lauded our work with student engagement and outcomes; our academic program evaluation and assessment process; the collaboration of the QEP committee; and our deep commitment to our mission. They even coined the term ‘empurpled’ to describe the spirited culture of our campus.”
Boschini and President Daniel Pullin reviewed the final documents. The reaffirmation decision was made by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees in December 2023.
“Our reaffirmation of accreditation has been made possible by the hard-working and dedicated faculty and staff at TCU,” Pullin said. “We thank everyone who participated in this important process – which has allowed us the opportunity to celebrate past achievements and look ahead to the next 150 years.”
In 2021, David E. Allen joined TCU as executive director of Institutional Effectiveness. He and his office began carefully reviewing institutional data and then finalized the 581-page compliance report submitted to SACSCOC in September 2022. Also in 2021, Dahlberg appointed Frank Hernandez, dean of the College of Education, and Claire Sanders, provost’s faculty fellow, as co-chairs of the QEP leadership team. In 2022, the QEP, Finding Ourselves in Community, was established. In January 2023, Allen submitted a 65-page report on the QEP to SACSCOC for review. Subsequently, a team from SACSCOC visited campus in March for four days of meetings with administration, faculty, staff and students.
