In its 150th year, TCU made its mark on another one of Fort Worth’s oldest institutions – the All Western Stock Show Parade. Beginning in 1896, the parade ceremoniously launches the beginning of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
This year, the parade featured appearances from head football coach Sonny Dykes and his family, the TCU Horned Frog Marching Band, TCU Rifle, the TCU Rangers and members of the Starpoint and KinderFrogs communities.
“I grew up in Fort Worth, and TCU and the Stock Show are synonymous with my hometown,” said Ashley Dilling, who watched the parade with her family this year downtown. “Even though I didn’t go to TCU myself, I went to games as a kid, and I have attended the stock show and rodeo nearly every year of my life. It’s nice to see the two have such a presence together. They are Fort Worth.”
As part of its kickoff week for TCU’s 150th anniversary, the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo will host a TCU night at the rodeo Jan. 26.
The parade made a big return after a two-year hiatus, one due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the other due to strong winds. Winter weather has notoriously stalked the parade, but this year, the partly sunny, mid-60’s day brought a bright welcome.
