From artificial intelligence to cyber insurance, the spring 2024 issue of TCU Magazine explores how Horned Frogs are creating pathways into the digital frontier.
“Now that the Sesquicentennial is a memory, the TCU Magazine team has refocused on the university’s rapidly unfolding future,” editor Caroline Collier said. “The cover story explores the inventive depth of TCU Neeley’s Fintech certificate program, in which students learn how to leverage artificial intelligence, blockchain and machine learning to prepare for finance careers.”
According to Collier, this program illustrates another way the university is forecasting and meeting the needs of the global and local business community.
“Did you know that Dallas-Fort Worth is now home to the second-largest volume of financial services professionals in the country?” she asked.
In addition to another feature on how faculty are integrating AI into courses across campus, the spring issue highlights the groundbreaking research of Mikaela Stewart, assistant professor of biology, on how malfunctioning BRCA1 genes cause cancerous havoc, as well as the suggestion of John T. Harvey, Hal Wright Professor of Economics, that the United States create a federal cyber insurance program.
Other spring stories include:
- A profile on the thoughtful Grant Moise ’04 MBA, the publisher and CEO of The Dallas Morning News, who has become an industry expert at the intersection of artificial intelligence, media, finance and changing readership patterns.
- A story about traveling opera star Vanessa Becerra ’12, who performed the role of Cinderella’s stepsister at The Met with only a few hours to learn the part.
- A Q&A with entrepreneurship professor Keith Hmieleski, which delves into the philosophy of self-determination as it meets optimism and opportunity.
