The seeds for TCU’s coveted connection culture and campus experience are planted at Frog Camp. In a few weeks, the class of 2026 will register for their incoming event, and faculty and staff are an integral part of making it happen. Student Affairs is now seeking faculty and staff partners for summer 2022.
“As a faculty/staff partner at Frog Camp, your role is to build relationships with our new students,” said Cedric Garron, Frog Camp director. “At every camp we strive for meaningful conversations about who we are as a TCU community. Many faculty/staff partners have developed long-lasting relationships with their campers, small group facilitators and fellow TCU colleagues across different departments while at camp.”
Frog Camp experiences include Casa Nueva, which displays life in Fort Worth; Challenge, which includes three days of adventure; and All-Stars, a new addition that provides a tour of local professional and Horned Frog sports.
“Although these camps are usually only three days, the friendships made last a lifetime for some of these campers, and it is so cool to watch them build those in such a short time,” said Kelly Lee, assistant director of student activities. “It is also rewarding to watch the upperclassmen mentor incoming students and know that, as faculty/staff, you helped support them throughout the process. I also love being a resource for these students after camp is over. I still talk with a good handful of my campers and support them throughout their four years here.”
Two virtual information sessions will provide a brief overview of what Frog Camp as a faculty/staff partner looks like and present an opportunity to ask questions. The Zoom sessions will be held at noon March 16 and at 3 p.m. March 25. Registration is not required.
Frog Camp dates run from May 31 to Aug. 18. To register for Frog Camp, obtain more information on being a faculty/staff partner and read each camp description, visit the Engage registration form. Registration will be open throughout the semester, but those who register by April 20 will be given priority for camp preference. Opportunities are open for both Frog Camp regulars or faculty/staff looking to take part for the first time.
“Frog Camp also allows the faculty/staff member the chance to interact with other staff members they may not normally get to know,” Lee said. “We help create an atmosphere where these incoming students can feel safe to share feelings and truly prepare themselves for college. Plus you can also provide insight that your student facilitators might not know and you get to have fun!”
