TCU will expand free, contactless COVID-19 testing on campus with a new site for TCU students and employees only opening Jan. 14 in the Brown-Lupton University Union (BLUU). The site will be located on the 3rd floor of the BLUU, in the Beck & Geren Conference Room. The current free Curative testing site in Parking Lot 6 will remain open to the public.
The TCU-only testing site in the BLUU will be open from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., Monday - Saturday, beginning Jan. 14. Advance registration for the BLUU Curative testing site is required. TCU students and employees must present their TCU ID card at the site to receive the test.
Both TCU testing sites are in partnership with Curative and funded by the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
Important Notice About Curative COVID-19 Testing
Individuals who receive a COVID-19 test from a Curative testing site should be aware of reports of false negative results reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. To reduce the risk of false negative results, it is important to perform the test in accordance with its authorized labeling. The specimen collection process must be observed by and adhere to the directions of the trained health care worker at the collection site.
The FDA notes that individuals who have concerns about their COVID-19 test result should consult with their healthcare provider. Under any testing circumstances, a negative result does not rule out COVID-19 and should not be used as the sole basis for treatment or patient management decisions.
“It is important to remember that a test marks one moment in time and individuals should not relax their efforts to slow the spread,” said Jane Torgerson, MD, director of the TCU Brown-Lupton Health Center. “Even if you test negative, you should maintain important prevention efforts like wearing a mask, physical distancing, hand washing and avoiding large gatherings.”
Dr. Torgerson also reminds TCU students and employees that if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and receive a negative test result, they should consult with their healthcare provider to seek care, fill out the TCU COVID-19 symptom report form and limit close contacts.
The TCU Curative testing site, which has been open since Nov. 16, 2020, currently has a 12% positivity rate.
