In response to feedback from faculty and staff, several days were added to the university holidays/closings calendar. The additional days include the day before Thanksgiving and additional days around the Christmas/Winter and New Year holidays.

Yohna Chambers, vice chancellor and chief human resources officer, said adjustments during the pandemic prompted re-evaluation.

“Over the last year, we faced mental and physical health concerns related to COVID-19 regarding our wellbeing and safety for ourselves and our families,” Chambers said. “For many in the TCU community, having additional time to spend with our VIPs (Very Important People) is a gift for which you outwardly expressed gratitude. We heard you! As a result, the Chancellor and Cabinet developed and approved the 2021-2022 University Holiday and Closing Calendar.”

Juneteenth – observed this year on Friday, June 18 – is now a regular university holiday, Chambers said, to allow members of the TCU Community to celebrate the emancipation of the formerly enslaved people in the United States.

Remaining in 2021 is the addition of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as a university closing day. This year, that day falls on Nov. 24.

Finally, the university will close the day before Christmas Eve – Wednesday Dec. 23 – and will re-open Wednesday, Jan. 5, resulting in a full two weeks of Winter Closing.

Employees make note that Independence Day falls on Sunday this year, which, as is standard practice, means the university holiday is scheduled for Monday, July 5.
