The first official university requirement for new Horned Frogs is also one of the most fun — Orientation. Required for new students enrolling in the fall and strongly encouraged for transfer students, Orientation provides incoming Horned Frogs an opportunity to get connected to the TCU community, register for classes and learn the basics of academic life at TCU.
“Throughout Orientation and Frog Camp we’ll host more than 4,900 students and families at TCU and the Fort Worth area from all over the world,” Tara McWhorter, M.A., director of First Year Experience, said. “We are so excited to have students and families here in person to welcome them into our Frog Family and experience our beautiful campus.”
In addition to advising and registration, Orientation includes sessions on academic resources and student engagement as well as small group activities and campus tours to help our newest Horned Frogs make new friends, learn TCU traditions and feel at home on campus — setting them up for success when they return for classes in the fall.
Each first-year summer orientation session is two days and can accommodate up to 220 students. For 2021, there are 12 first-year sessions — 11 in person and one fully virtual. The first session is June 21-22, and the final session is July 29-30. For students unable to travel to Fort Worth, an online Orientation will be held through Zoom meetings and prerecorded sessions July 6-7.
The one-day transfer student sessions are June 17 and July 14.
Parents and families will be able to learn more about the TCU campus and resources at in-person Orientation and through virtual Orientation Modules. Due to COVID space restrictions for 2021, students are limited to one guest at on-campus Orientation.
For fully COVID-19 vaccinated individuals at in-person Orientation, face coverings and physical distancing are optional. Those who are not fully vaccinated are expected to wear masks and maintain physical distancing, per CDC guidance. The TCU Brown-Lupton Health Center is offering walk-up vaccines Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. (available for students and family members). Note that like other health care facilities, face masks are required in the health center.
