It’s time to get moving! This spring, TCU is motivating Horned Frogs to get outside, be active and connect with others through the TCU Step It Up Challenge. This campuswide initiative includes in-person and virtual activities hosted by Student Affairs as well as participation in the national Recreation Movement Competition. Did we mention there are prizes? And, yes, the challenge is for the entire TCU community — students, faculty and staff!
To participate in the friendly competition among college campuses, simply create an account for the 2021 Recreation Movement Competition and track your minutes of activity doing cardio, lifting weights, taking a yoga class, participating in mental health programs, etc., to qualify for prize drawings. The program also offers virtual and prerecorded classes from TCU and other universities across the country. Registration is free but requires a tcu.edu email address.
On campus, Student Affairs is offering a number of programs to get students, faculty and staff moving:
Walk the Labyrinth: noon-1 p.m. March 17, Worth Hills; noon-1 p.m. March 24, Founders
Statue
Walking a labyrinth is a spiritual practice used by many different faiths for spiritual
centering, contemplation and prayer. Entering the path of a labyrinth, participants
walk slowly while quieting their minds and focusing on a spiritual question or prayer.
The hope is to find inner peace, achieve a gentle calm and receive spiritual nourishment
for the rest of the semester.
Out & About Fitness with Jessie: 12:15-12:45 p.m. Tuesdays/Thursdays starting March
16, University Recreation Center Main Entrance
Open to Rec members and nonmembers alike, this class promotes overall strength and
well-being in addition to improving fitness levels in an outdoor setting. Safe body-weight
strength and cardio exercises at low to moderate intensity levels challenge participants’
muscular strength and endurance in a non-intimidating atmosphere.
Virtual Yoga with Lauren: 12:30-1 p.m. Wednesdays starting March 17
Open to all levels, this online class provides 30 minutes of a powerful yet accessible
style of yoga that sculpts the body, builds strength and flexibility, releases stress
and calms the mind.
Sunrise Yoga with Alli: 6:15-7 a.m. Tuesdays/Thursdays starting March 16, Frog Fountain
Bring a mat to Frog Fountain for a more traditional style of yoga that focuses on
holding postures and moving mindfully to focus on the mind-body connection. This class
helps reduce stress and increases energy, stretch while strengthening the muscles
and encouraging participants to breathe more freely and fully.
