Horned Frogs have a brand-new ride. The TCU Department of Public Safety partnered with Groome Transportation to roll out a new campus transportation system that will include real-time bus tracking capabilities.

“Groome transportation is a wonderful family-owned company,” said David Coriano, coordinator of transportation services. “They have the experience we want and a vision that matches our own. They are bringing technology and services to the campus transit system that we have wanted and needed.”

That includes GPS tracking. Riders will soon be able to download the DoubleMap app and track buses in real time via their Android or iOS device. “Once the GPS system is in place and operating, we will notify the campus to let them know,” Coriano said.

Available for all of the campus community to use, buses operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The current campus route is served by four buses and includes nine stops. A bus is available at each stop every 7 minutes. Stops may be adjusted to accommodate route and ridership needs.

The new transit service follows an abundance of safety measures. Drivers and passengers are required to wear face coverings at all times. Bus surfaces are cleaned regularly with electrostatic sprayers. And while the buses can accommodate up to 30 passengers, capacity will currently be limited to about nine riders — or slightly higher if riders are roommates, for example – in order to maintain physical distancing requirements.

“We are excited to partner with Groome, and we look forward to providing a reliable and trustworthy transit system to our riders,” Coriano said.
